Traveling is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding and exciting things that one can experience. Of course, there is so much to see and get caught up in that it can often prove difficult to stay organized.
For many of us, the need to stay organized while traveling – by fast car, plane, or even motorhome – is not necessarily something that we consider, but for others, it might just make or break their trip. This is particularly true for those working and traveling, as well as those who travel for long periods at time. If you are one such traveler, take a look at some of our top tips for staying organized while traveling.
1. Create packing lists

Before your trip, create a list of items that you need to have with you on your travels – do this before you even dust off your suitcase, as it will help you stay organised and more efficient from the get-go.
Like online travel guides, there are plenty of pre-designed packing lists available online, making creating a checklist super easy and convenient. If you are going to multiple locations, it is a good idea to keep several copies of this list to help you pack up again before moving to a different city, as it will help you make sure that you haven’t left anything behind.
2. Have a gadget bag
In this day and age, most of us have gadgets in one form or another. We all carry smartphones, power banks, cameras, and laptops with us whenever we travel, to name just a few. Because of this, we often have so many different cords that just end up getting tangled or even lost.
There are plenty of options for gadget bags available at specialist travel shops and even online. By having your own gadget bag in your luggage, you can help make sure that everything (and their cable) has its own place without having to worry about how to keep them safe from damage during your passage.
3. Unpack as soon as you arrive
One of the best travel hacks for staying organized is to unpack as soon as you arrive at your accommodation. Living out of a suitcase can leave you feeling very flustered and disorganized, so once you get to your destination, unpack immediately, regardless of how long or short your trip may be.
Fold your clothing and place it into the closet or dresser, hang up garments that are prone to wrinkling, and place your toiletries into the bathroom instead of leaving them in their travel containers. This will immediately help you feel more at ease and will save you from pulling clothing out of rumpled piles on the floor of your hotel room.
4. Recreate your home environment
Hotel rooms have the ability to turn even the neatest people into messy ones. As a means of combating this, try to imitate certain aspects of your home life as much as possible. For example, if you keep your keys, lip balm, and wallet near your door, do so in your hotel room too.
If you keep your phone charger next to your bed at home, do it at the hotel as well. This way, you will be able to grab any essentials you may need on the way out and reduce your risk of leaving them behind.
